Corrections
Errors are corrected in place, with a dated note. Nothing is amended silently.
The policy
Every document published here is corrected in place when it is found to be
wrong. The text is amended, a dated correction note is appended at the foot of
the document, the revised field in its metadata is updated, and the
correction is recorded on this page. The original claim is described in the
note, so a reader can see what changed rather than only what it now says.
Corrections are never silent. A document that has been revised says so, in the margin, before the reader reaches the argument.
This page is append-only and ordered newest first.
What counts as a correction
A correction is issued for an error of fact: a misstated figure, a misattributed position, a misquotation, a wrong date, a source that does not say what the document claimed it said. These are logged here regardless of how small they are, and regardless of whether anyone noticed.
Changes that are not errors of fact are not corrections and are not logged. Fixing a typo, repairing a broken link, or clarifying a sentence whose meaning was intact does not require a note. Where the distinction is unclear, the error is logged.
If an argument is overtaken by evidence rather than found to contain a mistake, that is not a correction either. The response to being wrong about a judgment is another document, published under the same masthead, not a quiet edit to the first one.
Reporting an error
Write to hello@khyatinstitute.org with the document, the passage, and the basis for the correction. A located primary source is the fastest route to a fix. Reports are read whether or not they are signed.
The log
No corrections have been issued. This page was published before the first document, deliberately: an institution that states its corrections policy in advance is making a commitment, not managing an incident.
Errors are corrected in place, with a dated note, and logged at /corrections.
